Expectations

Question: What are your expectations for this class?

In this class, I expect to learn how to create a video game on scratch, and improve it.  I except to improve my knowledge on technology (computers), and get to do things I do not usually do with a computer. In addition, I think that I’ m going to learn how to make a video with sound effect based of actual movie scenes, because last year, I saw some of my friends in 8th grade do that. Lastly, I would like to become a better digital citizen.

Final Chemistry Experiement

Final Chemistry and Salts experiment- Elephant Toothpaste

  • 1/2 cup 20-volume hydrogen peroxide liquid
  • 1 Tablespoon (one packet) of dry yeast
  • 3 Tablespoons of warm water
  • Liquid dish washing soap
  • Food coloring
  • Small cup

Research Question: What temperature of water would be the best for the the elephant toothpaste?

IV: temperature

DV: how quick the foaming is being produced

Hypothesis:  As the IV increases, then the DV will be faster/quicker.

Data table:

Hot water Warm water Normal water
No results No results No results

Graph

Discussion:

Even after try three times, my experiment didn’t give me any results. However, Adam Savage once said; “In the spirit of science, there really is no such thing as a ‘failed experiment’. Any test that yields valid data is a valid test”. Something that worked with my experiment is that even thought there wasn’t any ‘foaming’, I could see that the mixture was going up. I think that next time I should try putting in more yeast. In addition to that, I could also put the exact amount of hydrogen peroxide needed. Finally, next time, I will try to follow the direction word by word o I don’t make mistakes.

Conclusion:

Based on my data, I can conclude that cold water might be a better solution for this experiment. That is because I tried my experiment with warm water, hot water, and room temperature water and I got no results for each of those. Next time, I should make sure to also use cold water

Final Chemistry and Salts Experiment

Hypothesis

The better the metal is, the faster the sodium chloride will be produce.

Discussion

The metal we used took a lot of time to react, our experiment was really rushed through because the metal took so much time to react. Next time, we should use a metal that takes less time to react then zinc.

Light and Dark Experiment

Research Question

What environment was the best for the plant?

IV: the environment the plant grew in

DV: how much it grew

Controlled variables

All plants grew in the same soil

Also, they all grew in a petri dish

Discuss how it improved

Well, nothing really changed because two plants died and the one that grew barely did.

Data:

2 plants dead (1 by the window and one in the dark), 1 alive(in the light)

Conclusion

Based on my data, I can conclude that 2 plants died, the ones by the window and in the dark. The plant that survived was the one in the light. It grew 3 cm high. The reason the plants by the window and in the dark died is because the environment they grew in wasn’t appropriate.

Joining the Swim Team

Hello everyone,

My name Karel and I am at ISD (the International School of Dakar). It’s been almost two years since I am at ISD. This year, I joined the swim team and it’s really fun. I am not that good at swimming but I really appreciate swimming. I like freestyle and and breastroke, but I HATE butterfly! I have never been in the swim team before, and I think it impacted my life so now I am a better swimmer and I think I’ll continue swimming next and maybe the rest of my life, who knows?
